Waylon Wilcox, a 45-year-old man from Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to tax evasion after failing to report income from the sale of 97 CryptoPunk NFTs between 2021 and 2022. Wilcox evaded approximately $3.3 million in taxes. On April 14th, 2025, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced the tax evasion charges against him. He faces up to six years in prison. The case highlights the growing scrutiny of NFT sales by the IRS amid increasing digital asset regulations.
